  • Parent Committee Elections, Every October:  Parents, please attend the October meeting and volunteer for a committee position.  The strength and quality of our troop depends on your enthusiasm and participation.  Review NOMINATIONS LIST.  

 

 

  • ASM Don Briglio and ASM Phillip Chu are in discussion with the Griffith Park Ranger to allow troop scouts to work on service projects at Griffith Park.  If you need a Star, Life or Eagle Project, please contact Mr. Briglio or mr.   • Star, Life or Eagle service project proposals must be approved by Scoutmaster Banuelos or ASM Mrs. Tanaka before it can be officially put on the troop calendar.  All scouts should review the approval process with the Scoutmasters to avoid any confusion. Service Projects Approval Process

 

  • Troop 301 Newest Eagle Scout:  Congratulations to Russell Chin and Scott Chin on earning their Eagle Rank in October. Congrats Russell, Scott, Kien , Vinnie and Chin family.   

 

 

  • Personal Fitness (Eagle required) MB Class - The class meets 7am to 8am at Monterey Highlands Park in Monterey Park. The next class date will be June 25. Please meet by the playground equiment near the first parking lot.  This is an on-going MB class and scouts may join at any time during the year-  signup with Scoutmaster Banuelos.  Wear comfortable clothes and shoes.  Bring a large towel and water bottle.

  • BSA Medical Forms Parts A and B - Medical forms must be renewed each year.  Parts A and B are for weekend campouts (eg. Camporee) and does not require a doctors signature.  Part C is required for Summer Camp and needs a physcial with doctor's signature.  Currently several scouts need an updated Part A and B Medical Form for the Pre-Camporee and Camporee Events.  Contact ASM Brandon Su for names of specific scouts who need to submit a new Part A and B form.  Turn in new forms to Mr. Su ASAP.

 

  • Citizenship MB (Eagle required).  Contact ASM Mr. Bill Yee for information regarding which Citizenship class (Community, Nation or World) for class dates and time.​

 

  • Journey to Excellence "Gold Troop" - Congratulations scouts, parents and adult leaders on helping our Troop earn "Gold" status in the BSA Journey to Excellence program. 

 

  • Scout Projects - Scout projects for rank advancement must be approved by Scoutmaster Banuelos.    All scouts are encouraged to participate  in these projects for their rank advancment.  This a a great way to show your troop spirit. Check the activity calendar for more details

 

  • Future Campout Dates:  Please mark your calendars and save the dates for these important campouts. Firestone Family Camp Out - Pumpkin Smash Nov.18- Nov.20 2016.

MERIT BADGE COURSES OFFERED BY THE COUNCIL:

 

The Merit Badge courses are optional, non-troop 301 events that are open to all scouts.  Click on the links to view more information about the event.

  • Troop 301 newest Eagle Scouts: Congratulations Eagle Scout David Moriyama and the Moriyama family.  David became Troop 301's #175th Eagle Scout.   Visit the the Troop 301 Eagle's Nest page for a list of all the Eagle Scouts.​

  • Merit Badge Counselors - Parent Volunteers Needed: Troop 301 needs you. If you have a skill, hobby or occupation that you could share with our scouts, then please consider becoming a merit badge counselor. Visit the BSA Merit Badge website for a complete listing of merit badges. Click here for the MB Counselor Information Application. The BSA Scouting.org website offers online MB Counselor Training and Resources to assist you in becoming a MB Counselor. Talk with Scoutmaster Banuelos, Parent Committee Chair May Lee, or the Troop 301 Merit Badge Coordinator for more details on how to become a Merit Badge Counselor.

  • ​Attention Troop 301 Eagle Scouts and Eagle Scout Parents - The National Eagle Scout Association is offering academic and merit scholarships.   Visit the NESA website for more information, requirements and details.  If you are a graduating high school senior and will be attending college in the fall, don't miss out on this opportunity to help fund your college education.

 

  • Girl Scout Troop #7901, 7p-8p, Thursdays in the SOTH Youth Room. Shepherd of the Hills is sponsoring a Girl Scout Troop. Come to the meeting to find out more and to join. If you know of any girl interested in joining the Girl Scouts, please contact Diane Gin, SOTH Representative at 323-243-5323 after 2:30pm for more details.   • Youth Protection Training - Effective immediately, BSA requires that YPT must be renewed annually. Contact Training Chair Agnes Chan for your expiration date and renewal requirement.

 

  • New Parent Orientation Meeting -  For new and veteran parents who wish to find out more about equipment and advancement suggestions, contact parents the New Parent Orientation Chair for  to request a class.  New parents can get helpful ideas from seasoned parents and ASM's to motivated their son to obtain their Eagle Rank and to make their scouting experience more enjoyable for everyone.

  • Parent Board of Review Committee:  All parents are encouraged to join the Board of Review Committee.   In order to advance in rank, every scout must sit in front of a panel of parents and answer questions about  their scouting experience.  Troop 301 parents are needed to fill these positions.  Contact Gloria Fukuda to volunteer.  Email: gloriarandyf@sbcglobal.net.

 

  • Troop Committee Challenge: If you haven't completed the Troop Committee Challenge, please complete this online training course. This training is required for the troop to earn more points in the BSA  Journey to Excellence Program. Log onto the www.myscouting.org website. Click on "E-Learning" from the left menu. Scroll down to "Boy/Varsity Scout" tab. Scroll down to view "Training Courses" and click on "Take Course" for Troop Committee Challenge. Please print a copy of your completion certificate and submit it to the Troop 301 Training Chair, Agnes Chan.

YOUTH PROTECTION TRAINING AND

POLICY CHANGES:

  • The Boy Scouts of America places the highest importance on creating the most secure environment possible for our members. Youth Protection training is required for all BSA registered volunteers. Current Youth Protection Training is mandatory for all new registrations or re-chartering. If a volunteer's Youth Protection training record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be reregistered. Effective June 1, 2015 Youth Protection must be updated annually. 

  • To take Youth Protection Training go to MyScouting.org and create an account if you don't already have one. Then click on E-Learning and take the Youth Protection training. Upon completion, you may print a certificate of completion to submit with a volunteer application or submit the completion certificate to the unit leader for processing at the local council. Please make sure that existing accounts have the member ID# linked to the profile to receive proper credit.
