Become a Scout in Troop 301:
Come visit and introduce yourself...

Age Requirement: Boy Scout Youth Applicant must be age 11, or Completed the Fifth Grade and is at least age 10, or Earned the Cub Scouting "Arrow of Light" award and is at least 10 years old, but has not yet reached age 18.

BSA Youth Application Form. Complete the Youth Application form and the "Troop 301 Consent to Treat" Form.

Pay the BSA Annual Membership Fee. Annual BSA Registration Fees is $24 (Fee is pro-rated based on month joined). Subscribe: $12 Boys Life Magazine. Each scout family will have a subscription at recharter time to earn 100% Boys Life Award for the troop. (Fee is pro-rated based on month joined). BSA Insurance: $1.80 (required only at Recharter).

Annual Troop 301 Dues: $65 per Scout, effective beginning 2013. Helps pay portion of advancement patches expenses.

Proud History: Boy Scout Troop 301 was first chartered in 1918-1919 and has the distinction of being one of the oldest chartered Boy Scout Troop in the Greater Los Angeles Area Council (formally San Gabriel Valley Council). We are a member of the Mission Amigos District serving the Monterey Park, Rosemead and South San Gabriel areas. Our Charter Organization is Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church of Monterey Park, California.

Tournament of Roses Parade: As a member of the San Gabriel Valley Council, all Troop 301 Eagle Scouts will qualify to march in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena. Scouts have the opportunity to hold the float banners and march down Colorado Blvd on New Years Day. Visit the Tournament Troop website.

Mission Amigos District Camporee: Troop 301 scout patrols have consistently won "Presidential" and "First Place" awards at the annual Mission Amigos District Camporee. Camporee is a three day camping event with other troops and gives our scouts the opportunity to demonstrate and apply their scouting skills and knowledge in a friendly competition setting.​

Parent Responsibilities

Troop 301 requires that at least one parent join BSA and become an "Active" Committee Member with Troop 301. Parent/family must participate in all troop fundraisers.

Parent must complete the Adult Application and pay the BSA Membership Fee of $24 per year (pro-rated based on month joined.)

"Parent must complete "Youth Protection Training (YPT)" and "Troop Committee Challenge Training (TCC)". Go to www.myscouting.org to take the training classes online. Print out the YPT and TCC Completion Certificates and attach to your Adult Application.

Turn in all your completed forms and fees to our Membership Chair or Parent Committee Chair.

"Class A"
Boy Scout Uniform
The scout must purchase these items:

Official BSA Scout Handbook, 12th Edition. The handbook is required as part of your uniform. Scouts may purchase gummed edge or spiral bound. Book cover is optional. Note: Spiral edge is more durable. Pages on gummed edge may fall out over time. The handbook contains the important signatures need for rank advancement. Don't lose those signature pages if your handbook starts to fall apart. As you advance in rank, make a photocopy of your signature page for proof in case you lose the page or it gets water damaged.

Centennial Cotton Tan Shirt - cotton poplin, short sleeve with US Flag patch and the purple World Crest patch. (Scout must buy this shirt with these patches. May consider buying slightly larger size so you can grow into it.)

Centennial Canvas Convertible Pants: The pants can be unzipped and converted to shorts. (Scout must buy the pants.)

Centennial Web Belt with Buckle. Scout must buy the web belt for the canvas pants.

Centennial Boy Scout Crew Socks. Rose parade scouts are required to wear the crew style socks. Troop 301 allows scouts to wear plain black socks too. Scouts must purchase their own socks.

Centennial 36" long Boy Scout Sash. Merit Badges are sewn onto this sash. Boys will grow into the longer sash. Scouts must purchase their own sash. The troop will award merit badge patches at the Court of Honor Ceremonies throughout the year.

Black Dress Shoe/Boot: Black shoe used for formal occaisions. Try Wal-Mart, Target, Payless Shoe Stores.

Lightweight Hiking Boots. Use for campouts and hikes. Try Big 5, REI, Outdoor Outlet or other sporting good store.

Troop 301 Class C green T-Shirt. Every scout must have a troop t-shirt used for scout projects and at campouts. The shirt is purchased from the troop only. See the Scoutmaster or Parent Committee Chair to buy the shirt.

Visit www.scoutstuff.org to preview the items. Uniform may be purchased at the San Gabriel Valley Smiser Center Scout Shop in Pasadena.

Troop 301 will provide the numeral patch, council patch, shoulder loops, and anniversary patch and the neckerchief and slide. Also Troop 301 does not use the BSA hat.
